The Manchester Food and Drink Festival is a nationally acclaimed event that has developed to its current level over 14 years. Conceived and developed by Phil Jones and Chris Tomlinson in 1998, the event originated as a means of showing the rest of the nation that there was more to Manchester dining than the stereotypes that existed at the time.
It is an urban food and drink festival, there is no single location, rather the Festival takes over as much of the City Centre and surrounding districts of Greater Manchester as possible, with a huge programme of events taking place, both indoor and outdoor.
Like Manchester itself, the Festival is both Original and Modern. Events and participation have ranged from a children's food workshop at a community library in Salford, to a glittering Gala Dinner at Manchester's Town Hall.

No Mancunian winter is complete without a wander through the chalet-lined streets of Manchester's famous Christmas market.
The perfect place to get your evening started, pick up some fabulous Christmas gifts, or relax after a hard day's Christmas shopping, the markets really have become a very firm fixture of everybody's yuletide countdown.
The array of stalls is mind-boggling, with mouth-watering delicacies from all over Europe. Try sweet and savoury treats from Dutch mini pancakes and Hungarian goulash to Spanish paella and French profiteroles. Relax with a hot chocolate, warming Gluhwein, German or Spanish beer or French wine. Soak up the atmosphere of a truly international event with a uniquely Mancunian flavour. That's not all, The Manchester Christmas Markets picked up the Large Tourism Award in 2010.
